Essay KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

KNOWLEDGE IS POWER

In general, it is true. that the man who knows has a great advantage over the man who does not know. The educated classes have always managed to establish their authority over the ignorant. This can be illustrated in various ways. The Holy Quran has described the event of Allah's declaration that he intended to appoint Adam as His vice-regent on earth. The angels raised several objections against this proposal. Then Allah taught Adam the names of all the things and asked the names of the angels and Adam, the angels could not reply while Adam gave a correct reply. Hence the superiority of man was established over the angels because 9/ knowledge.

Physically, man is very weak as compared to other animals. He cannot fly like birds but he has manufactured airplanes that fly much faster than birds. Without the wonderful tools he has invented, he cannot run like a horse. He has no natural weapons of defense like the tiger's claws. He is no ranch for the lion, bear, and elephant in strength. Yet he conquers all these strong and fierce beasts and forces some of them to be his slaves. It is his superior intelligence and power of knowledge that makes him the master of all those creatures who are otherwise physically superior to him. In the same way, and for the same reason, the developed nations dictate their terms and conditions to the backward nations. A handful of Europeans in South Africa ruled over millions of African people only some time ago. The U.S.A. has become the "Policeman of the World" because of the power that knowledge has given her in the shape of modern science and technology.

During the "Dark Ages" in Europe, the only educated men were priests. As a result, the rulers had to appoint priests' as their ministers to run the government. Actually, these priests ruled the country. The same was the case in India. The learned Brahmins introduced such a unique caste system in their religion that for ages they were the real rulers and dominated all lower castes. When man was sent to this earth, he was quite helpless.

The knowledge helped him in discovering the mysteries of nature and in manufacturing various tools and machines for his comfort; Man's religious, cultural, social, and other developments have been due to his superior knowledge. It is due to the knowledge that man has been hidden forces He able to harness the of nature. has invented highly powerful telescopes which have enabled him to have a look at the stars, planets, and galaxies which are billions of kilometers away. By splitting the atom, he has generated atomic energy which can be utilized for peace as well as war purposes.

Today, in Europe and America the rate of literacy is cent percent. As they have advanced in knowledge, they have advanced in power. Consequently, the people of these countries are no longer under the domination of priests and kings. They have such an admirable democratic system that they rule themselves. All citizens have equal rights. The dignity of man is upheld under all circumstances. The rule of law is established. In short, all the security and prosperity of the west is due to its knowledge.
